My Music Collection Project

It all started one night, when I was up late watching infomercials on TV. There was an infomercial about a CD set of hit songs from the 70s. At first I thought, "70s music? yuck", but after listening to some of the songs they had on there, I realized I really liked a lot of that kind of music, and I didn't have any kind of that music in my collection. So that began my quest. I decided to download all the hit songs from the 70s to add to my collection.

Then when I was about half way through the 70s, I thought, why stop there? So I decided to get all the hit songs from the 70s to the present day. This would be quite a task, and would take hours upon hours of work. But I would do this in my spare time, and it would eventually be complete.

So it began, I found a site that had hit songs from every year, and used it as a guide. I began collecting music from 1970 all the way up to 1990. It wasn't until then, that I realized that some of the songs I remembered listening to back in the day, were not on my list. The list I had was good, but there were still a lot of songs missing that I wanted to have. So I found another website that had hits of every year, and low and behold, there were all the songs that I really wanted. So I backtracked, with my new list in hand, and went back to 1970 and back up to 1990. Since then I've been using both lists to find songs for my collection.

I started this project back in March of 2004, it has been about 6 months so far, and the end is in sight. Since I don't want it to end so quickly, I think that once I get all hit songs from 1970 to present day, I am going to go back and get the 60s. I thought about getting the 50s, but sock hop music isn't my thing. But who knows, I might collect those years after all.

At the time I wrote this, I have over 4,600 songs now, and when I started I had just over 1,800 songs, so I've come quite a way.

I have a love for collecting things, and this has to be the biggest collection I've done so far. When it is complete, I will have over 40 years of hit songs. Someday I want to put together a spare computer and turn it into a jukebox with all this music.
